Mark Jackson to Team with Legendary Marv Albert on YES Network’s Nets Telecasts

NEW YORK, NY (October 6, 2005) – Former NBA star Mark Jackson, the former Bishop Loughlin (Brooklyn) and St. John’s standout whose NBA Rookie of the Year season kicked off a sterling 18-year NBA career, will team with legendary play-by-play man and fellow New Yorker Marv Albert on the YES Network’s Nets telecasts this season.

YES’ 81-game regular season Nets broadcast schedule tips off Wednesday, November 2, when New Jersey hosts Milwaukee (7:30 p.m.). All YES Nets telecasts will be accompanied by pre-game and post-game shows and, for the first time, YES will present all Nets home games in high-definition this season.

Jackson was named NBA Rookie of the Year after his maiden NBA season, 1987-88, setting an NBA single-season rookie record for assists in the process. He played five seasons with the hometown Knicks before suiting up for the Los Angeles Clippers, Indiana, Denver, Toronto, New York, Utah and Houston before retiring following the 2003-04 season. Upon his retirement, Jackson ranked second in the NBA with 10,334 career assists, 10th with 1,296 career games played and 20th with 1,608 career steals.

“It’s great to return to my roots and team up with an institution such as Marv Albert on YES’ Nets telecasts,” said Jackson. “I feel that the Nets have the ability to make a run deep into the playoffs, and their intense, aggressive, unselfish style of play will make for exciting telecasts.”

“Mark Jackson, joining Marv Albert, gives YES a stellar announcing team,” said John Filippelli, president, production and programming, YES Network. “He will complement Marv’s play-by-play style perfectly, providing unique insight and perspective gained from playing 18 years in the NBA. “

“Mark Jackson is proving to be an outstanding broadcaster who will be an ideal match with Marv Albert on Nets telecasts on YES,” said Nets CEO Brett Yormark. “As one of the NBA’s best point guards, Mark demonstrated his knowledge and understanding of the game and will bring an insider’s insight to the broadcast, as well as a wry sense of humor. Mark is a well-known native of the metro area and provides our fans with another familiar presence on the air.”

“While I was announcing New York games when Mark was with the Knicks, I saw him as a quarterback on the court, an extremely confident player possessing a great strategic mind and very strong leadership skills,” said Albert. “He will bring those same qualities to YES, and will do a great job analyzing the Nets’ play, and the NBA in general,” said Albert.
