Kidd Named to NBA All-Defensive Second Team

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (May 12, 2005) -- New Jersey Nets guard Jason Kidd has been named to the NBA All-Defensive Second Team, the NBA announced today. Kidd finished with a total of four First Team votes and 16 overall points in the voting, conducted by the league's head coaches.

This is the third consecutive season that Kidd has been named to the Second Team and fourth overall (1999-00, 2002-03, 2003-04). He was previously voted to the All-Defensive First Team on three other occasions (1998-99, 2000-01, 2001-02), making this the seventh time in his career that Kidd has been named to one of the two All-Defensive Teams.

Joining Kidd on the Second Team were Tayshaun Prince (Detroit), Marcus Camby (Denver), Chauncey Billups (Detroit), Andrei Kirilenko (Utah) and Dwyane Wade (Miami). The First Team consisted of Ben Wallace (Detroit), Kevin Garnett (Minnesota), Bruce Bowen (San Antonio), Tim Duncan (San Antonio) and Larry Hughes (Washington).

In 66 games this season, Kidd averaged 14.4 ppg 7.4 rpg, 8.3 apg and 1.86 spg. He finished the season ranked 1st in the NBA in triple-doubles, with eight and 3rd in the league in assists per game. During the course of the season, Kidd moved into 9th place on the NBA's All-Time assist list (7,283) and 20th place on the NBA's All-Time steals list (1,625).
