Brooklyn Nets Star Deron Williams Assists Borough Courts All Season Long
Brooklyn, NY (January 18, 2013) – Brooklyn Nets superstar Deron Williams is giving wings to Brooklyn parks, honoring the community that has welcomed him and the team this year.
As part of the 'Brooklyn's Got Wings' project in partnership with Red Bull and the Brooklyn Nets, every assist Williams dishes out over the next two seasons will trigger a $150 contribution for the refurbishment of eight public basketball courts at four parks in the area. The New York City Department of Parks & Recreation is identifying the courts that need refurbishment. The first two courts will be announced during the NBA All-Star break in February. All the courts are located within a two to three mile radius of Barclays Center, home of the Brooklyn Nets.
Through Thursday, January 17, Williams has delivered 292 assists, generating $43,800 for 'Brooklyn's Got Wings' so far. Based on his nine-assists-a-game career average for the remaining games this season, the contribution would come to $101,850 for the full season.
"My performance on the court will have a direct impact on refurbishing courts around Brooklyn," said Deron Williams, the three-time basketball All-Star. "Hopefully, I will continue to rack up plenty of assists for my team and for the community with Brooklyn's Got Wings."
"We look forward to Deron assisting his team and helping to make-over the basketball courts in Brooklyn's neighborhood parks," said Brooklyn Parks Commissioner Kevin Jeffrey. "We are grateful for the substantial commitment that Deron, the Brooklyn Nets and Red Bull are making to our city's parks with the Brooklyn's Got Wings project."
