Catching Up with Derrick Favors
This week, several Nets are training at the PNY Center in East Rutherford, a group including Terrence Williams and rookies Derrick Favors, Damion James, Ben Uzoh and Brian Zoubek. NJNets.com caught up with Favors for a few questions at the conclusion of Tuesday’s workout.
NJNets.com: What did you take away from your week at Summer League in Orlando?
Derrick Favors: That I need to work a little harder, in the post, on all things. Get a little stronger.
NJNets.com: It seemed like you really came along during the week, scoring 23 points and grabbing 11 rebounds in that last game.
Favors: It’s a learning process. I didn’t come in expecting to dominate off the top. I had to get used to it, get a feel for the game. I feel like I gained a lot in Summer League.
NJNets.com: Did you learn anything about your game you weren’t expecting to?
Favors: Just how strong I was. I didn’t know I was that strong quite yet.
NJNets.com: What did you learn playing alongside Damion James, Terrence Williams and the rest of the Summer League team?
Favors: Just how hard they work, how hard they’re competing. That just means I’ve got to work hard. I knew that coming in, but how hard they play made me play harder.
NJNets.com: Damion mentioned yesterday that you, him and Terrence were heading out to the Tim Grgurich camp.
Favors: Yeah. They sent a note to my house saying I’m going up there. So I’ll just pack my bags and go on my way.
NJNets.com: Anyone tell you what to expect?
Favors: Just workouts and then playing at night. Basketball stuff.
NJNets.com: What does the coaching staff have you working on?
Favors: Just shooting a lot of elbow jump shots, working on post moves and continuing to get stronger.
NJNets.com: What did you think of the team’s offseason moves, bringing in the four free agents?
Favors: I think they did a good job bringing in some good players. We’ll be a young team, but overall, I think we’re moving forward. And we’re going to win some games this year.
