NETS ACQUIRE STROMILE SWIFT FROM MEMPHIS
IN EXCHANGE FOR JASON COLLINS

February 4, 2008

East Rutherford, NJ- The New Jersey Nets have acquired forward Stromile Swift from the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for center Jason Collins and cash considerations, Nets President Rod Thorn announced today.

"Let me first thank Jason Collins for his contribution to the Nets over the past seven years. He was a vital member of the core group of players that went to the playoffs six consecutive years, including two NBA Finals, and we wish him the best of luck for the remainder of his career," said Thorn. "With that said, we are pleased to add Stromile to our roster. He is a player who will add athleticism and experience to our frontcourt rotation."

Swift, a 6’10” forward, is in his eighth NBA season, posting averages of 6.8 points and 3.7 rebounds per game. The Vancouver Grizzlies originally selected Swift as the second overall pick of the 2000 NBA Draft out of Louisiana State University. After five seasons with the Grizzlies’ franchise, Swift signed as a free agent with the Houston Rockets, where he spent one season (2005-06) before being traded back to Memphis, where he has played since. Over his eight NBA seasons, Swift holds career averages of 8.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.3 blocks in 507 games.

Collins, originally selected by Houston with the 18th overall pick in the 2001 NBA Draft, was acquired by the Nets in the draft night trade in which the Nets also garnered the draft rights to Richard Jefferson and Brandon Armstrong, in exchange for the draft rights to Eddie Griffin. In his seven seasons with the Nets, Collins played in 510 games (404 starts), averaging 4.4 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. Collins leaves the Nets ranked 3rd all-time in games played (510), 7th in minutes (12,492) and 9th in rebounds (2,304). Part of the Nets’ postseason success over the past six seasons, Collins holds playoff averages of 4.4 points and 3.7 rebounds in 75 playoff contests, making 58 starts. He ranks 3rd all-time in postseason games played (75) and blocks (33), and 4th in rebounds (331) and minutes (1,781).
