Nets Lose to Pacers By Matt McQueeny, NJNets.com Orlando, Fl. – The Nets lost their in third game of the 2007 Pepsi Pro Summer League to the Indiana Pacers, 90-65. It was an evening where they turned the ball over 31 times, leading to 32 Pacers points. Andre Owens led five Pacers in double-digit scoring, with 23 points. Shawne Williams – coincidentally, the 17th pick last year for Indiana – scored 17 and Kareem Rush scored 16 points, including 3-for-4 from deep. For the Nets, Sean Williams had 10 points in just 20 minutes of play and a beautiful fast-break windmill dunk in the first quarter. He also got to line for the first time this week, going 6-for-6. Marcus Williams had 11 points, six rebounds, and five assists, but turned the ball over nine times. And Josh Davis notched a double-double, with 13 points and 12 rebounds. The Nets were tied with the Pacers at 24 with just under two minutes to go in the first quarter. When Anthony Myles of the Pacers hit two free-throws to put Indiana up, they would never look back. They pushed their lead to ten (36-26) at quarter’s end and held a biggest lead in the game of 27. It was a tough night. Said Head Coach Lawrence Frank, “I think the first quarter - outside of the last two minutes -offensively we were good but they shot 75%. And then you have 31 turnovers to nine assists. You don’t even deserve to be in the game so it’s a disappointing performance but it’s summer league, you have different combinations. I thought Sean (Williams) had a better start than he’s had in the past. Josh Davis had some good moments. All in all, as a team, we didn’t play very well.” “It was a tough game for us,” echoed Hassan Adams, who had eight points and three rebounds. “Today, it felt like we couldn’t find it, we couldn’t find the basket, we couldn’t find what we were doing in the past two games, and it was tough throughout and the game kind of got away from us. It’s a learning experience. Everyone’s out here trying to learn and learn the league. All you can do is just learn from this loss.” Frank was asked what the coaches look for when assessing the players as the week wears on. “I think it’s the consistency of playing well and also making strides and getting better. Some of the mistakes that they’re making in day one you hope that they’re not making in day four. So it’s can they make adjustments on the run, can they improve, can their effort be consistent, and can they maintain their focus?” They will have their chance tomorrow when they play Charlotte in the first game of the day at 3 pm. |
