Orlando, Fl. – The Nets (3-2) finished off their week at the Pepsi Pro Summer League on a high note with an 88-77 win over the Chicago Bulls (2-3). Marcus Williams had 12 assists, nine of which came in the first half, to just three turnovers and added six points. Josh Davis led four Nets in double-figure scoring, with 19. Sean Williams had his high point total for the week, at 17 points. He also had three blocks and three steals.

Sean talked after the game – and has said on numerous occasions during the week - that he still feels he needs to work on his rebounding. With his three boards today, his week average was 3.8 per game.

Over the final six quarters of Summer League, Williams had 29 points on 9-for-14 shooting.

Hassan Adams continued to give the energy, netting 10 and boarding seven. Those totals were also actually his averages in those categories over the week.

The teams stayed close throughout the first quarter. Marcus and Sean Williams had the pick-and-roll working, with Williams scoring 10 of the Nets first 13 points.

Said Marcus Williams after the game, “I’ve been trying to work on him (Sean Williams) verbally saying if you set the pick and roll, you’re going to get open because we have shooters and they really can’t help off the shooters. If you just roll to the basket, you’re either going to be wide open or you’re going to be double-teamed.”

Marcus converted on a beautiful fast-break alley-oop to Hassan Adams – where Adams went up high and jammed it home with his right hand – to cut the Bulls lead to 21-20. Chicago guard JamesOn Curry hit a jumper to close out scoring in the quarter. Chicago led 23-20 after one.

Chicago pushed their lead to six (33-27) when JamesOn Curry knocked down a jumper from the right side. New Jersey responded with a 13-2 run, extending through quarter’s end to a 17-7 run. They held a 44-40 lead at the half. Josh Davis scored seven in the quarter, all of his baskets assisted by Marcus Williams; Hassan Adams scored six.

Marcus Williams had nine first-half assists to only two turnovers and Sean Williams and Josh Davis had 10 points apiece.

“I tried to get guys the ball, tried to get Sean the ball early, I felt that would open up my game a little more in the paint,” said the point guard.

The Nets pushed out to a 58-50 lead in the third. Sean Williams again was an early spark, scoring six in the quarter. The Bulls responded with a 9-4 run to get back within three (62-59). Brandon Hunter converted on two free-throws to close out scoring; the Nets led 64-59 at the end of three. Thabo Sefolosha of the Bulls scored 10 in the quarter.

New Jersey opened the fourth on a 14-3 run, capped by a Josh Davis three-pointer. They led 86-70 following a Brandon Hunter lay up, and one. Mike Jones scored eight in the quarter.

The Nets end their week with Marcus Williams showing averages of 16 points, six assists, and 4.2 rebounds; Sean Williams 9.8 points, 3.8 rebounds, 17-of-19 from the line, and 16-of-31 from the field; Josh Davis 12.2 points, seven rebounds, and 12-of-27 from three; and Robert Hite had 12 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 7-of-15 from three in four games.

“I think I had a down point midway through the week,” said Marcus Williams. “But I think towards the beginning and end I showed some strengths and showed some improvement.”

Said Hassan Adams, “As the days went on, I felt like I got comfortable out there as an individual just playing my role. Knocking down open jumpers, playing D, you know, making the right plays. As the week went on, we won some games. Obviously, we won today and I felt like everyone came together as a team and really got it done to get a win.”
