LAWRENCE FRANK, Head Coach
On Ryan Anderson... “The thing that I like about him is his willingness to learn. He works very hard. He was well coached by Trent Johnson at Cal. I just really like his basketball DNA.”
On Sean Williams... “I think that thing is that yesterday he was alright, but today he played tremendous. To Sean’s credit he came over to my room and we watched tape together. He shows an eagerness to do it. He has a willingness to work hard and learn. Beasly is going to be a special player in this league and Sean took a great deal of pride in taking the one-on-one challenge and did many good things. You never want to put a ceiling on someone who has the athleticism that Sean does. If he can combine skills with his athleticism he will have tremendous upside.”
On Chris Douglas-Roberts... “CDR played great in game one, and while tonight wasn’t at the same level, that is part of the young experience. You saw how Beasly was great yesterday and didn’t have the same success today. That is all part of the process. That is the beauty of summer league, to deal with the little bumps in the road and how you respond to playing well and how you respond to not playing so well.”
SEAN WILLIAMS, Forward
On what he has learned between his first and second summer leagues... “You’ve got to have a work ethic. You’ve got to be professional. This is your job and you have to look at it like that. As a rookie you don’t know your job yet. I know my role much better this year. I’m just trying to hit the boards and be active out there now.”
On defending Michael Beasley today... “I know that he is a great scorer, but I wanted to go out there and enforce my defensive will on him.”
On today's game... “Brook Lopez was excellent out there. He gave a great effort on the boards today. He was a presence on the offensive end in the paint. We have to be more protective of the ball out there, try to cut down on our turnovers. If we take care of the ball we’ll be fine.”
BROOK LOPEZ, Center
On the summer league experience through two games... “I thought I’ve done well. I’ve learned a lot. I’ve tried to step over and stop penetration, which is what coach has been telling us.”
On playing away from the basket... “I think that I can do it. I really just have to buckle down, get into my shooting stance and try hard all the time.”
On playing with Ryan Anderson and without his twin brother Robin Lopez... “We really try to pick each other up because we know each other so well. If one of us isn’t playing well we try to help each other out. It isn’t that weird playing without Robin now, because at least Ryan can shoot the three.”
On defending Michael Beasley... “We came in just trying to force him right. Play hard against him and block shots. Give him one opportunity and that’s it.”
RYAN ANDERSON, Forward
On his progression as a player this summer... “Gradually as we keep playing I am finding my role on the team, making sure that I have the plays down. I’m learning the game, learning to better myself in the team game. Summer league is totally different than college because you are coming out and you are playing in the NBA and a bunch of new things are thrown at you. I think that my game is progressing, I’m improving and I’m pretty happy with the way that I played today.”
On overcoming obstacles... “I’ve always been the underdog. I’ve always played with a chip on my shoulder. People haven’t believed that I can do things and I’ve just had to prove them wrong.”
