BRIAN HILL, Nets Assistant Coach
On the game...
“I thought we came out in the beginning of the game with a much greater focus and a much greater defensive intensity. I thought our guys really got after it at the defensive end of the floor and we were scoring primarily because of our defensive energy. We can do a better job with our offensive execution but off one practice coming into this, that is kind of to be expected. We didn’t do that bad a job in the second half defensively. We still played aggressively, but we had a few too many turnovers in the third quarter, combined with some foolish fouls that got them back in the game. We kind of paraded them to the free throw line in that quarter and got them back up and they made plays down the stretch. Tyrone Brazleton came in and changed the game around with his penetration and finding guys for open shots. Both teams fought down to the wire really well. We competed much better than we did last night, but came out on the short end of it.”

On Ryan Anderson:
“Ryan was short with everything tonight, was on the front of the rim all night long. He shoots a little bit of a flat shot, which is something that we have to work on with him. I don’t think he is really used to the NBA range on the three-point shot and that is usually an adjustment for guys coming out of college. But the one thing he did do well is he attacked the basket and got to the free throw line. I was happy to see that tonight, to add that dimension to his game and not just be out there being a spot up shooter, but looking to attack the basket a little bit more and get to the line. He helped us on the boards and I think he will continue to get better.”

On Chris Douglas-Roberts:
“With CDR, it is mostly all of his hustle plays. He attacks the basket offensively. He is not a great shooter, but he made timely shots today. He attacked the basket and he is another guy who gets to the free throw line. Defensively, he is an energy guy. He has to learn his help concepts a little bit better and improve in that area, but he is a gamer to me. He is one of those guys who plays a lot better in games than he does in practice and I think he can make a contribution to our team this year.”

On Jaycee Carroll:
“Jaycee did a much better job today, especially on the offensive end. He got us out to a good start, made a couple of nice plays, nice runners in the lane. He gave us a lift throughout the whole game offensively and did a much better job than yesterday.”

On Jaycee’s transition to point guard:
“I think that is something that is going to be a continual adjustment for him. That’s one of the hardest things to do, is converting from being an off-guard to a point guard. He has done a good job offensively of running the team. Sometimes he still has that scorer-first mentality but he has done a good job of running the team in these two games and getting better with it and more comfortable with it in each game.”

RYAN ANDERSON, Foward
On the team’s play:
“It’s been interesting because we kind of started off real quick with it. We had one day of practice and we jumped right into games. Yesterday we started a little slow. Today was a little better. We dropped a (14) point lead, so that was tough. They (Jazz) had a lot of players who stepped up at the end, in the last six minutes, and that really killed us. It’s different because we have a different group of guys. We are running a different type of offense. I was completely used to the offense in Orlando and we are all kind of adjusting to the new stuff and to the new guys around us. I played a lot better today than I did yesterday and I think we are all going to gradually improve as the days go on. I think I rebounded the ball better, but I just need to shoot the ball better.”

On his rebounding:
“I have always had that rebounding mentality. I am kind of a scrappy player. That’s how I get a lot of my points, off of offensive rebounds, so why not try to outwork the defender so you can get the easy bucket. It’s kind of how I always played, always going after the ball.”

On his improvement in summer league play:
“I definitely feel like I can take the ball off the dribble better. I am a lot more confident taking the ball off the dribble. My shot, I felt really confident with it in Orlando and I am gradually working it back up with that. Definitely just being more confident out on the court, I think that has improved over the past couple of weeks because I do have six or seven games under my belt now. I am just going to go out, play hard and keep improving.”

CHRIS DOUGLAS-ROBERTS, Guard
On the game:
“We all didn’t perform. This is a team game and need everybody, especially the people that we are really depending on, to show up and play well. We let a big lead go and we got away from ourselves.”

“Personally, I did okay. It was a so-so game. I missed a couple of chippers, a couple of bunnies, but I have to be more assertive. I have to be more aggressive because I let the game get away from me.”

On his role with the team:
“They are really looking to me to score the ball. That is what the coaches say, ‘get in and score, just score the ball’ and that is what I am going to do. From here on out, we have one more game and I am definitely going to show that I can be more aggressive.”

  • 08 RMR DAY 4: UTAH VS. NEW JERSEY
THE GREAT ALMOND - CARROLL SHOOTOUT

  • Not wanting to disappoint the crowd, Carroll scored the game’s first basket on an 18 foot jumper as well as back-to-back floaters to score six of his team’s first 10 points. After the quick start, the Nets held an early 10-6 lead. The Nets continued their strong play as Ryan Anderson was impressive scoring nine points and grabbing seven rebounds. Anderson’s production combined with the 26.7% field goal shooting of the Jazz helped the Nets create a 22-13 advantage after one period of play.

  • The Jazz started the second quarter shooting the ball much better than they had in the first quarter. Earl Calloway and Yaroslav Korolev each scored six points. Morris Almond scored seven points, mainly from the free throw line, to lead the Jazz in the quarter. However, they were not able to slow down the Nets as Chris Douglas-Roberts scored eight points without missing a shot. Jaycee Carroll would add five more points for the Nets, including an impressive steal and three-point play with 40.7 seconds left in the half. The score at the end of the midway point was 45-35, advantage Nets.

  • Kosta Koufos helped the Jazz get off to a good start in the second half, taking the ball at the free throw line, driving the lane and throwing down a one-handed jam. However, the success was short-lived as Kyrylo Fesenko missed a wide open dunk. The Nets would then put together a little run with jumpers from Jaycee Carroll, Julius Hodge and Brook Lopez to extend their lead to 55-42 with 6:41 remaining in the quarter. Ricky Paulding, who did not play in the first half, would then make his mark for the Jazz. First, he hit a two point jumper, followed by a dunk and ended his run with a three-point shot from the corner and the Jazz were suddenly back in the game, trailing 61-54 with 2:08 left in the quarter. The crowd was back in the game and the Jazz responded finishing the third on a 8-2 run, cutting the Nets’ lead to one at 63-62.

  • The Jazz were led by Morris Almond who scored 14 of his game high 24 points from the free throw line. Tyrone Brazelton scored 16 points, grabbed four rebounds and dished out four assists off the bench. Jaycee Carroll led the Nets with 22 points and Ryan Anderson finished the game with 18 points and nine rebounds in defeat.
