LAWRENCE FRANK, Head Coach
On Chris Douglas Roberts... "I thought that he impacted the game in different ways, but obviously I think that he got stronger offensively in the second half. He was active defensively. He forced some steals. I think that one of the first things for young players is that regardless of how many minutes you play or regardless of if you are making or missing shots, how can I impact the game. I think he did some of the little things that you want."
On Vince Carter’s support of the Nets summer league team... "It is one thing for the guy to come, it is another thing for him to be so active. A guy comes out of the game and he is talking to the guy. He talks to everyone. At halftime he comes in and talks to the guys. That is just who he is. It is invaluable."
On Brook Lopez... "Today it was good to see that they doubled him in the post and now there is the recognition ‘Ok, let me figure this thing out. I have to catch this thing high enough. I’m going to look at the cutter. I don’t like the cutter, so I’m going to kick it out for a repost.’ And that’s the beauty of summer league."
On Brook Lopez’s maturation as a player... "I think that it is a long process. Right now you are in summer league, but how many of these guys are going to be playing significant minutes in the NBA? Not many. All he can do is go against the competition that is in front of him. We are working on some fundamental things each day and we want to see the consistency from him in willing to do that. His ability to move his feet and get in the right spot at the right time. But you have to like the progression that he has made. He has done a lot of good things."
BROOK LOPEZ, Center
On improving his game... "I want to come out each game and play better than I did in the game before, just to show that I’m learning. And I’m learning new things every game, and I’m getting experience. Overall I think I was better at stopping penetration and being there to help my guys when they got beat. That last game yesterday I just felt that I got beat in the first half a lot. It ended with them getting a lot of lay-ups and and-one fouls."
On getting shots in the Nets offense..."I feel like that will come. I’m getting my looks and the guards get theirs, so I’ll get shots. I’m just more worried about picking up defensively so that I’m not the weak link there."
On his mid-range game..."I feel perfectly fine taking it. I shoot a lot in practice, so I feel fine with it."
On the physical demands of the NBA game compared to the college game..."You just have to be ready to go every game. It is a step up physically, a step up with the speed of the game and the tempo of the game, you just have to adjust to that, and that’s what I’ve been trying to do these last four games."
On Vince Carter’s presence at the Nets summer league games..."I try to show him something. It is really just great to have him there. He has been helping me, especially on the pick and rolls. On offense where to set the pick and then to roll hard to the hoop and that our guy will find me. Defensively the same thing. Helping baseline when one of our guys gets beat. It has been great to have him out there because he obviously brings so much experience."
On the best thing that he will take away from this year’s summer league..."On the defensive end just getting used to the tempo of the game and anticipating penetration-wise to help my man when he gets beat baseline."
RYAN ANDERSON, Forward
On today's game..."Today was a better performance for everybody. We were ready from the get-go. Our defense was a lot better than it was yesterday, especially with me too, my positioning was better. The coaches were just joking saying that I needed to get a three-second call so that I knew that I was in the right place, and I actually got one. Today I feel a lot better than yesterday. My defense needs to keep improving and I’ll get more playing time as this goes on, but I’m pretty happy with the way I played today."
CHRIS DOUGLAS-ROBERTS, Forward
On today's game... "I feel that I did a good job on the defensive end. I tried to rebound the ball tonight, I got a steal, so it went pretty well."
