EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J.—The Nets were once again spreading holiday cheer throughout the metropolitan community as part of their annual “Season of Giving.” From November 15th through January 1st, NBA teams celebrate the annual NBA Cares Season of Giving. Players, coaches, and family members join with dozens of community partners and thousands of local volunteers to make a difference in the lives of children and families during these difficult economic times.

Season of Giving Recap
The Nets tipped off the Season of Giving on November 22nd by providing a Thanksgiving feast to over 200 members of the Newark community at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Nets players Devin Harris and Brook Lopez joined their teammates in serving the Thanksgiving meal that was provided by the Nets Foundation.
In December, the Nets hosted a holiday party for 75 kids from the Boys & Girls Club of Newark. Devin Harris, Jordan Farmar, Kris Humphries, Travis Outlaw, Anthony Morrow, Johan Petro and Troy Murphy joined Nets dancers and Sly in treating the kids to holiday fun at the Nets practice facility. The afternoon kicked-off with lunch donated by McDonald’s along with munchkins and hot chocolate provided by Dunkin Donuts. Mars also donated holiday M&M’s for all the kids. The players helped the kids make gingerbread houses and then assisted Santa Sly in handing out gifts to all the children.
In Brooklyn, Nets players Brook Lopez, Derrick Favors, Damion James, Ben Uzoh, Quinton Ross and Stephen Graham assisted in distributing toys to over 1100 kids from five Salvation Army community centers in Brooklyn at a holiday event at Brooklyn Borough Hall. Toys were provided courtesy of the Barclays/Nets Community Alliance and the event was presented by Nets sponsor National Grid.
Also in Brooklyn, Nets rookie Derrick Favors, Nets Dancers and Mini Sly, joined Santa to hand out gifts to children from four select Lutheran Family Health Center sites.
Nets players Devin Harris and Jordan Farmar also took part in spreading the holiday spirit at local area hospitals. Devin visited the pediatric unit at Hackensack University Medical Center and passed out gifts to the kids along with Santa Sly. The gifts were courtesy of Devin’s 34 Ways to Assist Foundation.
Jordan teamed up with Santa Claus to visit children with muscle and bone disorders and lupus at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan. Both Jordan and Santa presented the kids with presents at the hospital’s annual holiday party. In addition, Jordan joined the kids in arts & crafts and decorating popcorn balls.
The Nets also hosted their annual toy drive and coat drive at games in December. The Nets annual toy drive was held on December 1st. The toy drive was held in partnership with the Newark Now Brighter Holidays Campaign which benefited underprivileged kids in Newark. The Nets teamed up with Jersey Cares for the annual coat drive on December 14th with the coats benefiting local women, at-risk men, children, and infants.
