Nets Join NBA Cares to Help Haiti |
|
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J.—In the afternoon of January 12, 2010 an earthquake, registering 7.0 on the Richter scale, rocked the Caribbean nation of Haiti, causing mass devastation. The Nets and NBA Cares are joining forces with our partner UNICEF, who have been on the ground in Haiti since 1949, to bring attention to the crisis and much needed emergency assistance to the victims. Despite heavy damages to its own offices in Port-au-Prince, UNICEF is ready to provide immediate support to the estimated 3 million victims of the unfolding humanitarian crisis following the earthquake that hit Haiti yesterday. UNICEF officials estimate that half of those affected by the quake are children. Funds are urgently needed to provide safe water, temporary shelter systems and essential medical supplies and additional services to the displaced to aid in relief efforts. We are all saddened to see the massive destruction caused by the earthquake in Haiti. Please join the Nets and the rest of the NBA family in supporting UNICEF as they respond to emergency relief efforts. To find out how you can help, please visit unicefusa.org/haitiquake.
