Day 1: Brenna’s BlogHey Fans! - The Nets Dancers have officially arrived across the pond in London! As soon as we landed we got right down to business and had a photo shoot at some of the city's most famous landmarks. It was a great opportunity for us to represent the Nets while getting to see sights such as the House of Parliament, Big Ben and Trafalgar Square. The weather was sunny and beautiful, making it such a special experience. We then ventured across the Thames River to the Lillian Bayliss Old School to meet with local youth athletes and cheerleaders as part of NBA Cares. It was so much fun performing for such an enthusiastic audience, and to make it even better, we held a clinic to teach one of our home court routines. After such a whirlwind arrival, we were grateful to get a couple hours of unpacking and relaxing before Cecilia spoke on our behalf at BBC London Sports Radio. Although it was a very long day, it was a great start to our trip to England. We can't wait to see what's in store for us next! Cheers, Brenna |
Day 2: Taylor’s BlogTaylor here! - Today was an extremely exciting day. We took in all the thrills and frills London has to offer. We started off our journey at the Tower of London. The torture chambers, crown jewels and holding cells were amazing, but it was the London Eye that was a truly breathtaking experience. From the top of the Eye, a large rotating observatory that is reminicant of a ferris wheel, you can see all of London – Big Ben, the London Bridge, and Buckingham Palace. You name it – we saw it! After a quick lunch, we were off to Westminster Abby. The architecture was absolutely incredible. Unfortunately, we weren’t unable to enter the church, but our spirits were lifted when we stopped next to it to take a snapshot in front of a Barclays establishment! The last stop on our journey was Buckingham Palace. We saw the guards at work, but unfortunately no William or Harry. The Palace was extremely beautiful, and today will be a day I will never forget! Cheers, Taylor |
Day 3: Christina’s Blog Hello everyone! - After enjoying a spectacular dinner in London's famous Notting Hill, we got some rest for the NBA Jam Van event today. We woke up very excited and eager to perform for our fans in London! We arrived to screaming fans in beautiful Trafalgar Square where the NBA Jam Van was parked in the midst of the Square’s signature fountains and sculptures. The fans welcomed our arrival with eager applause as we ran out to perform and give them a great show! We performed four of our routines straight from the IZOD Center court, and then we took time to get to know the fans while signing our team posters. Now we are off to see Harrod's for some shopping and dining! We are so sad to leave London tomorrow, but we are looking forward to our time in Birmingham! Cheers, Christina |
Day 4: Cecilia’s Blog Greetings! - Today we are saying goodbye to London and heading to Birmingham for tomorrow’s Jam Van event. While we travel, I am thinking back to some unforgettable highlights of our time spent in London. One of my favorite experiences was heading to BBC London for a radio interview on their sports radio channel. During the interview I was asked questions about what it's like to be an NBA dancer and how my trip to London has been so far. The BBC London radio experience was an awesome opportunity to speak about the Nets Dance Team and the Nets organization. I was excited to tell them about the different teams that make up the Nets Entertainment experience and what the Nets Dancers do at a typical basketball game. I was happy to have the chance to tell the people of London how thankful we are and how lucky I feel to be a part of the very first NBA Jam Van event in Europe. Although we are used to performing and doing interviews on morning news television in New York City, my BBC London radio interview was an experience that I will remember for a lifetime! Cheers, Cecilia |
Day 5: Laura’s Blog Hello Nets Fans! - Today our tour with NBA Jam Van Europe ended in Birmingham’s Centenary Square with remarkable success. A little background – NBA Jam Van presented by Hannspree is the NBA’s state-of-the-art interactive basketball tour being staged in Europe for the first time. After the Nets Dancers and I return home, it will visit four other European countries on over forty tour dates. The Jam Van Center Court was the hub of activity in Trafalgar Square, London and Centenary Square, Birmingham. It was here that fans played one-on-one games and participated in a number of contests, including free throw shooting and slam-dunks on baskets of various heights judged by yours truly, the Nets Dancers. Fans also witnessed performances of our routines straight from the IZOD home court and got the opportunity to receive personalized Nets Dancers posters and to take photos with all of us. As the Nets Dancers and I get ready to return to the states tomorrow, I’d like to give special thanks to the NBA and all of the sponsors who made this tour possible. It was a tremendous honor and a privilege to be part of the first-ever NBA Jam Van staged in England. The citizens of London and Birmingham (pronounced Birming-em) genuinely embraced us from the moment we arrived. Being able to interact with our fans across the world and to teach clinics was unquestionably the most rewarding experience of it all. I believe I speak on behalf of all the ladies when I say this tour was a life changing experience. The people of England have left an etched impression in my heart, and my sincere gratitude goes to all who made this possible! Cheers, Laura |
