College Basketball Teams, Barclays Center Visitors Expected as Guests at Downtown Brooklyn Hotel
BROOKLYN, NY — Muss Development LLC and Barclays Center announced today that the New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge has been named as the Official Hotel of Barclays Center. The alliance brings together a world-class hotel located in Downtown Brooklyn with one of the most highly anticipated sports and entertainment arenas in the country.
Upon the arena's opening in September 2012, Barclays Center and the hotel expect to have basketball teams, performers, concertgoers, and those attending other top events at the arena staying at the New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge. The Atlantic 10 will be using the Brooklyn Marriott as the hotel headquarters for the A-10 Men's Basketball Championships which will be held at the Barclays Center.
"The New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge is the only true full-service hotel in the borough," said Joshua L. Muss, Principal of Muss Development LLC, the hotel's owner. "It encompasses over 30,000 sq. ft. of banquet and conference facilities, a full scale gym, spa and indoor pool, a more than 1,000-car indoor parking garage and 24-hour service. The relationship with Barclays will reinforce the preeminence of the hotel in Brooklyn and in all of New York City. We fully expect that our partnership with Barclays Center will add to the success of what has become one of Marriott International's top performers in the U.S. market."
"We are thrilled to align with the premier hotel in Brooklyn," said Brett Yormark, CEO of Barclays Center. "The New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge is conveniently located to Barclays Center and offers the capacity, first-class amenities, and preeminent banquet rooms necessary for teams and artists that will play at the arena. It's also an ideal spot for visitors to the borough who will be attending events at Barclays Center."
Sam Ibrahim, the hotel's general manager since 2000, echoed the sentiments of Mr. Muss and Mr. Yormark, adding that the hotel has been a major catalyst for the renaissance of Downtown Brooklyn:
"In addition to providing the best hotel rooms, services and amenities in Brooklyn, the New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge has become an economic boon to the area, its residents businesses and visitors. From an area that few travelers had reason to visit just 15 years ago, the hotel and neighboring Renaissance Plaza were among the pioneers that helped the area grow into a bustling neighborhood. It will achieve its next level of transformation with the opening of the Barclays Center this fall. We are proud to be part of the next great era for Brooklyn."
When it opened in 1998, the New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge was, and continues to be, the first and only full-service hotel in Brooklyn. Built and owned by Muss Development LLC, a real estate development company which has been in business in New York City since 1906, the Brooklyn Marriott was the first newly constructed hotel in Brooklyn in 64 years.
In September 2006, the hotel completed a 24-story expansion tower, enabling the hotel to reach out to long-lead groups and convention business, while remaining flexible to meet local needs and provide availability for individual business and leisure travelers. All 667 rooms are completely new or renovated, with Marriott's signature bedding and furnishings, including flat screen TVs, connectivity panels, built-in coffee nooks and mini-refrigerators.
Immediately adjacent to the hotel is a newly upgraded, landscaped plaza and Brooklyn's new "Restaurant Row" which includes Panera Bread, Shake Shack, soon-to-be-opened American BBQ and Beer and Sugar & Plumm, with even more to come.
The designation as the Official Hotel of Barclays Center includes a number of cross-promotional activities, including two branded guest service centers at the arena.
The hotel and arena also will work cooperatively to promote one another through co-branded marketing and through social media. They plan to develop additional sports and entertainment promotional packages for the benefit of patrons of both facilities. The hotel also will become a member of the Barclays Center Business Alliance, a networking group that explores joint business opportunities.
