Brook Lopez Named to NBA All-Rookie First Team

East Rutherford, N.J.New Jersey Nets center Brook Lopez has been named to the T-Mobile NBA All-Rookie First Team, the NBA announced today. Lopez joins Chicago’s Derrick Rose, Memphis’ O.J. Mayo, Oklahoma City’s Russell Westbrook and Miami’s Michael Beasley on the All-Rookie First Team.

Lopez averaged 13.0 points (6th among rookies), 8.1 rebounds (2nd among rookies) and 1.84 blocks (9th in NBA, 1st among rookies) in 82 games, including 75 starts. In 30.5 minutes per contest, he shot .531 (448-844) from the field (1st among rookies) and .793 (172-217) from the line, which was ranked 5th among first year players. The Stanford University product finished the season with a Nets rookie record 151 blocks, which surpassed the previous record of 113 set by Kenyon Martin in the 2000-01 season.

Lopez’s .531 field goal percentage ranks second on the Nets all-time rookie records list, trailing only Buck Williams, who shot .582 (513-881) from the field in 1981-82. Lopez recorded a Nets rookie center record 18 double-doubles, including 55 games scoring in double figures and 23 games with 10+ rebounds. He received Rookie of the Month honors in consecutive months, winning the award in January and February.

Selected with the 10th overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft, the 21-year old California native became the second youngest player to ever start in a Nets uniform when he got the nod vs. Atlanta on 11/14/08. Lopez is the 12th player in Nets team history to be named to the All-Rookie Team (seven First Team selections and five Second Team selections).
