NETS SIGN FOUR FREE AGENTS

East Rutherford, NJ- The New Jersey Nets have signed free agents Rod Benson, Mateen Cleaves, Eddie Gill and Jumaine Jones. Per club policy, terms of the contracts were not released.
The 6’10” Benson spent the 2006-07 season in the NBA Development League, splitting time between the Austin Toros, where he averaged 2.4 points and 1.5 rebounds in 13 games, and the Dakota Wizards, where he averaged 10.4 points and 8.2 rebounds in 36 games.
Cleaves has appeared in 167 games over six seasons with four different NBA teams, including Detroit, Sacramento, Cleveland and Seattle. The 6’0” Michigan State product holds career averages of 3.6 points and 1.9 assists per contest. The 14th overall pick in the 2000 NBA Draft spent the 2006-07 season with Bakersfield Jam of the D-League, where he averaged 16.5 points and 9.0 assists in 22 games.
A five-year NBA veteran, Gill began his career by appearing in eight games for the Nets during the 2000-01 season before making stops in Memphis, Portland and Indiana. The 6’0” guard has averaged 3.1 points and 1.1 assists in 167 career games. He spent the 2006-07 season in the Russian Super A League.
Jones appeared 18 games for Phoenix during the 2006-07 campaign, averaging 2.2 points and 1.3 rebounds on .275 (14-of-51) from the field. In 471 contests over eight seasons with six different teams the 6’8” forward out of Georgia holds career averages of 7.1 points and 4.2 rebounds in 20.8 minutes per contest.
