Opening Statement:
Would the Hornets be as motivated to make this trade if (Jackson) Vroman didn’t break his wrist?
RT: Probably not. This trade came together today. I can’t speak for them, but I think part of it had to do with Vroman breaking his wrist.
What does the trade do for the team?
RT: It does several things for us. Marc was very professional, worked very diligently, had an outstanding attitude but it just wasn’t working out for him here. From that standpoint, I don’t think it was going to work out for him here. So that was part of it. This enables us to get under the luxury tax. Nachbar is a good athlete who has had some moments in the league. We are hopeful he can give us some help off our bench.
Does Nachbar have two years left on his contract?
RT: I don’t want to say what he makes but he does have some time on his contract. It puts us under the luxury tax and it gives us some flexibility.
Does the flexibility include if Tim Thomas gets waived?
RT: It gives us the ability to remain under the luxury tax and to sign “a” player if there is a player who fits our needs.
You still have your first-round picks this summer?
RT: We still have both of our first-round picks, yes.
Do you see something else happening because you are down a player?
RT: We had 14 players and now we have 13. That is all we are required to have.
Did you come close to making any other deals?
RT: We had conversations with four or five different teams. From 9:00 am on we had a bunch of conversations. And this was the deal that ended up working out.
Was this the only deal in which you were able to keep the first-round picks?
RT: No.
If you are unable to acquire any other players, what do you think of the make-up of your team down the stretch?
RT: The two players we lost weren’t playing. From a playing perspective over the last month, both of them played very little. If an injury were to happen then it might change.
Do you feel you have enough for the playoffs with the current team?
RT: I would never say that. We seem to be playing well the last several weeks and hopefully we will be able to maintain that but you never know.
If Robert “Tractor” Traylor gets cleared to play by doctors, would you look at him?
RT: I think "Tractor" is looking at next year instead of this year for a potential comeback. I think that is a real long shot right now.
