Hey Nets fans! It’s Jessie coming to you from Istanbul. What a dance-filled weekend this has been! After getting to perform for all of you over in Brooklyn at Barclays on Friday for the Nets vs. Atlanta game, I quickly packed up my bags to join some of my Nets family in Istanbul for the Turkish All-Star game. After taking a full-day flight, I arrived in Turkey around 5:30am this morning. I immediately went to the arena where the game was being held for a quick rehearsal. Even though everything seemed to be happening so fast, I couldn’t help but take in every single second of this amazing experience. I feel so blessed and honored to be a rookie performing with all of these wonderful and talented young ladies, all while going on my very first international trip!
The fans at the game were incredible, which fed my adrenaline rush that much more! Performing nine routines in one game is sort of unheard of for any NBA dance team. However if there’s one thing I’ve learned in the short time I’ve been with these women, it’s that we’re extraordinary! We definitely brought some Brooklyn over to Istanbul!
Even though I’ve only been in Turkey for two days, I didn’t let that stop me from soaking in every ounce of culture and beauty surrounding this city. While most of the group went back home this afternoon, I got to stay an extra day to go sightseeing. My favorite part of the day was going on an impromptu boat tour and seeing all of the beautiful architecture that this city has to offer, especially the Bosphorus Bridge that lights up in all different colors at night.
As sad as I am to be leaving tomorrow, I wouldn’t have traded this experience for anything. And I want to give a special “Tesekkur” (thank you) to all of our fans over in Istanbul for creating such a memorable trip for me. I’m going to stay up and watch the sunrise and soak in every last ounce of this city before I leave – that’s what sleep on the plane is for right?
See you back in Brooklyn!
