NBA 3X in Spain

Viva España!

June 9, 2013

Hola! Today was our final day performing at NBA 3X in España, and the feeling could not be more bittersweet.

We opened and closed the event with two awesome dunk routines. One included a little surprise for the spectators with Captain Siobhan ending the show with a high-flying dunk over NBA Legend, Robert Horry, who stands 6’9” tall.

We also rocked-out on center court with two of our athletic routines, "Scream and Shout" and "It Takes Two."

The event ended with a celebratory awards ceremony, as well as giving great thanks to the entire NBA 3X staff for inviting us and making us feel completely at home. I was sad the event was over, but I could not be more thankful for the opportunity to perform for our lovely fans in Spain!

Since it was our last day in town, we set out to explore more of the beautiful city. We took a tour down the oldest street in Madrid, known as "Gran Via," where we saw City Hall and the Spanish Square. Next we dined at an authentic Spanish restaurant and then did some shopping at a local mercado. For dessert, we headed to the Royal Palace, where we had delicious ice cream and a breathtaking view of the courtyard. Before heading back to the hotel, we made one last stop at the "Center of Madrid," which was very similar to NYC's Times Square with numerous stores and people bustling all around. Here we saw the monument of Spain's mascot, the Bear, and took in the picturesque view of the old city.

In the late evening, we went to a traditional Spanish restaurant for our last meal together before heading home in the early morning. Here we tried a variety of mouth-watering tapas, such as the potato omelette and the potato and ham croquettes to name a few. We savored every last second of our last evening in Madrid! It’s hard to believe how quickly this adventure has come to an end, but we give nothing but “muchas gracias a España” for welcoming us with open arms.

Viva España y hasta luego!

First Center Court Show in Spain

June 8, 2013

Today was our first day performing at the NBA 3X tournament in Madrid. The event site was right in the middle of the city, and the humongous waving Madrid flag aided as a beautiful backdrop to the day.

The dunking divas and I put on a perfect show for the fans that were cheering and dancing along with us. It is so much fun when we get to interact with the crowd!

For lunch the ladies and I ventured out into the city, and we had a delicious meal to fuel up for the second part of our day. During our break, we learned that "Madrid" has Arabic roots that translate to "good water," and we let the rain fall down upon us! Even though we were worried that the showers would interfere with our show, the sun peaked through the clouds and created a spotlight for our second string of performances.

We finished the night with a Japanese-style dinner. While it wasn’t a traditional Spanish meal, sushi was a nice treat! Overall, the first day of the NBA 3X tournament was a great success, and I have no doubt that tomorrow will be even better. I can't wait to find out!

Until next time,

Tipping Off the Weekend in Madrid

Hola Brooklyn fans! Guess who just touched down in Spain? It’s Brooklynette Jessie coming to you all the way from Madrid! I think it’s safe to say we all caught up on some much needed sleep on the flight, and before we knew it, we had arrived. Hungry from the long trip, we quickly dropped our bags in our rooms and headed to lunch. We went to traditional Spanish restaurant, and I must say the tapas were delicious! My favorite was the steak dish…yum!

Next we made our way back to the hotel and enjoyed some downtime. After a siesta, we were back at it for dunk rehearsal. By the looks of the event site, I can tell it’s going to be an awesome show! While practicing we got a sneak peek of what I believe is going to be a super fun crowd, as those passing by didn’t hold back with their applause.

Once we finished rehearsal we returned to the hotel, throwing in a quick late night gym session of course! We want to make sure we’re well rested for our first performance at NBA 3X tomorrow, so we opted for some room service. As I wait for my dinner to arrive now, I’m getting excited to see the crowd and to perform for all of our Spanish fans! I hope Madrid is ready for the Brooklynettes!

Catch you all later!
