2013 London Visit

A Whirlwind Day in London

June 6, 2013

Hey Nets fans! I’m so excited that the Nets will be playing a game in London this season! Some of the Brooklynettes and I stopped in London on our way to NBA 3X in Madrid during the offseason.

Our first appearance was at Pineapple Dance Studios in the Covent Garden area of London. Here we taught a dance class to some local reporters and gave them a taste of what it takes to be a Brooklynette. Captain Siobhan led the warm up and Captain Jessica led us in teaching the reporters a section from one of our routines.

After dancing, we worked up an appetite and lunched at a restaurant in Covent Garden. What was supposed to be a rainy and gloomy London day turned out to be sunny and warm. I guess Brooklyn brought the sunshine!

Our next stop was to take in the view from the top of The Shard. The Shard has 87 floors and is the tallest building in the European Union. The architecture of the building is incredible. We were lucky enough to venture to the top and to experience the amazing 360-degree view of London!

We then journeyed to Borough Market and got to soak up some of the local culture. There were stands where people were giving away samples of their fresh produce, meats, pastries and more! After sampling some of the incredible food, we stopped for tea.

One of my favorite parts of the day was getting to climb (yes, literally climb!) to the roof of The O2, one of the world’s most popular entertainment venues.

Some of us overcame our fear of heights as we used a harness to guide us all the way up. At the top there was a viewing platform that allowed us to take in a breathtaking view of the city.

We even had the privilege of performing a couple of our routines up there and doing a photo shoot before our descent.

This is the venue where the Nets have played in the past, and will be playing this year.

It’s hard to believe that all of these amazing events happened in just one day. Our jam-packed London adventure is one that I will never forget. Stayed tuned for our next international journey!

Cheers,
Jen
