MEMPHIS, Tenn.—Saturday at FedExForum, the Brooklyn Nets built a first-quarter lead behind 16 points from Joe Johnson and went on to beat the Memphis Grizzlies, 97-88. Johnson finished with 26 points (9-15 FGs, 4-7 3Ps), 5 rebounds and 6 assists.
The Nets, playing without forward Paul Pierce (bruised right hand), started Tyshawn Taylor, Alan Anderson, Johnson, Kevin Garnett and Brook Lopez. Andray Blatche chipped in 21 points off the bench, shooting 7-of-10 from the field and a career-best 3-of-3 from three-point range.
Center Lopez tallied 20 points (7-16 FGs) and 9 rebounds in his second game back from injury. Point guard Deron Williams (left ankle sprain) will be re-evaluated on Monday.
The Nets now return to Brooklyn, where they open a two-game homestand on Tuesday against the Nuggets (YES Network, WFAN 660 / 101.9 FM, 7:30 p.m.)
