JAY Z (Re-)Redefines Fresh to Death at Barclays Center

One life to live, I can't let a day go
By without me being fly, fresh to death
Head to toe 'til the day I rest
And I don't wear jerseys, I'm 30-plus
Give me a crisp pair of jeans, and button up

—"What More Can I Say", The Black Album, 2003

Nearly nine years after single-handedly ending the throwback era, cultural icon Shawn "JAY Z" Carter loosened the buttons Friday night to reveal the official jersey of the Brooklyn Nets. Emerging from the sloped stage, JAY Z wore a white hat with "Nets" emblazoned in black along with black jeans, black boots and a black bubble vest hanging open to reveal several thick gold chains and a customized No. 4 "Carter" black road jersey with "Brooklyn" arcing across the front.

JAY Z spent Opening Night at Barclays Center proudly representing the borough in which he was born and raised for a 90-minute singalong with the hometown crowd. He ripped into "Where I'm From" and "Brooklyn (Go Hard)" before "bigging up his brother" with "Kick in the Door" and "Juicy."

"I've been around the world, but nothing feels like it does tonight!" JAY Z exhorted. He'll ride the vibes for seven more shows. Brooklyn's Finest, indeed.
