Arena History

The NETS have called seven different locations home since joining the ABA – as the New Jersey Americans – for its inaugural season in 1967-68. The team originally planned on a Manhattan home, but ended up playing out of New Jersey's Teaneck Armory before bouncing to Long Island the following season.

After three stops on the Island, the NETS returned to the Garden State, playing four seasons at the Rutgers Athletic Center before moving to the Meadowlands in 1981. They remained there for 29 years (through three arena name changes), shifting to Newark's Prudential Center for the 2010-11 and '11-12 seasons, in advance of a scheduled 2012 move to Brooklyn, N.Y. and the under-construction Barclays Center.
