10 Things to Know about Wayne Ellington

The Wynnewood, Penn. native calls Brooklyn the “perfect spot” for him to be playing this season.

Coming to Brooklyn from the Lakers in 2014-15, Ellington appeared in 65 games, averaging 10 points per game and recorded single-season career-highs for starts (36), rebounds per game (3.2) and assists per game (1.6) in 25.8 minutes per game.

“Wayne is a proven shooter who will give us added depth on the wing,” said Nets General Manager Billy King upon signing Ellington over the offseason.

Over the course of his NBA career, the 6’4’’ guard has appeared in 377 career games (71 starts) with Minnesota, Memphis, Cleveland, Dallas and the Los Angeles Lakers.

BrooklynNets.com sat down with the 27-year-old to get to know one of the new faces of the Nets.

First reactions on coming to Brooklyn

I had a lot of conversations with my agent, weighing options out, but this was just the perfect spot for me, on the court obviously and off the court as well. I’m from the Philadelphia area so I’m from right down the street. This is a lovely spot for me and I’m very happy.

Favorite movies

My favorite movie is “He Got Game.” I like action movies and I like all the Denzel movies … big Denzel fan. Mark Wahlberg movies too.

Musical taste

Hip-hop, I’m a hip-hop guy. I love Jay Z, Brooklyn huh? Meek Mill, Future is killing it right now. But yeah, I love hip-hop.

Players who inspired him

Growing up, I was a huge fan of Michael Jordan of course, Kobe, being from the same area and I’m a huge fan of Ray Allen’s game.

Familiarity with Brooklyn

I’m not really familiar with Brooklyn yet, starting to figure it out a bit but I know it’s cool and the next Manhattan. It’s an exciting spot.

Role models

I just have a tight circle around me. My parents have always been there for me and I have two older sisters so I’ve always been the baby. They keep me humble for sure. And I have two nieces as well, so I’ve got a close-knit group around me that I keep close.

Signature move on the court

Three, shoot it from the three, that’s my thing. I like the between-the-legs step-back, that’s my go-to.

Interests other than basketball

I like to go to the movies and I like to bowl, I’m a bowler. I like fashion and clothing, do a lot of shopping and obviously this is the best place to be for that. I don’t have any favorite restaurants yet here, but I guess I’ll learn that this year.

Pre-game rituals

I switch it up on the meals. In terms of rituals, I do the same thing coming out in terms of warming up, stretching and that kind of thing. Same thing every game. There are some things I go through mentally, that I can’t really share.

One thing to say to Nets fans

I’m definitely ready to go. I’m excited for the season and think we’re going to surprise a lot of people. We’ve got a group that can get it done, going to play together and we’re going to bring it. Brooklyn basketball, we’re going to represent.
