What is the NBA FIT/WNBA FIT Challenge?
The NBA FIT/WNBA FIT Challenge consists of a series of five (5) exercise stations: Line Sprints, Jump Rope, Defensive Shuffle, Wall Pass and Speed Revolution. Participants compete individually against the stopwatch and each participant is timed at each of the five (5) exercise stations for thirty (:30) seconds per station. The repetition of each exercise converts into a point value – participants are trying to earn as many points as possible in the thirty (:30) second time period. The NBA FIT/WNBA FIT Challenge is an easily administered program in which boys and girls compete separately in (3) levels of competition, with thirty-two (32) participants advancing to NBA FIT/WNBA FIT Challenge Regional Competitions and sixteen (16) advancing to the NBA FIT/WNBA FIT Challenge National Finals at NBA All-Star Weekend in Dallas, Texas, February 12-14, 2010.

Who can host an NBA FIT Challenge local competition?
YMCAs, Boys & Girls Clubs, Parks & Recreation Agencies, PALs, JCCs, private youth basketball leagues, and other civic organizations can register to host an NBA FIT/WNBA FIT Challenge local competition at www.nba.com/nbafit/fitchallenge/registration. Local competitions must be held between September 15, 2009, and November 15, 2009.

How much does it cost to host?
The NBA FIT/WNBA FIT Challenge is a FREE program available to youth ages 5 to 14. The program is provided free of charge to YMCAs, Boys & Girls Clubs, Parks & Recreation Agencies, PALs, JCCs, private youth basketball leagues, and other civic organizations.

How do I register to host an NBA FIT Challenge local competition?
Organizations can register to host an NBA FIT/WNBA FIT Challenge local competition at www.nba.com/nbafit/fitchallenge/registration. Local competitions must be held between September 15, 2009, and November 15, 2009.

What do I receive if I agree to host an NBA FIT Challenge local competition?
Organizations that agree to host an NBA FIT/WNBA FIT Challenge local competition will receive a “FIT KIT” on or around September 10, 2009. This kit will contain everything you need to host your local NBA FIT/WNBA FIT Challenge local competition including: Two (2) basketballs, Two (2) jump ropes, Three (3) bean bags, One (1) 30’ roll of logo tape, One (1) digital stopwatch, One (1) official program handbook, and a bundle of registration/scoresheets for your participants.

Who runs the event?
Local host organizations are responsible for securing their own staff of volunteers to assist with the execution of the NBA FIT/WNBA FIT Challenge. It is recommended that a minimum of six (6) adults be available to assist with the competition.

How many volunteers do I need to host a competition?
We suggest securing 6-7 total volunteers for an efficient competition. Five volunteers can serve as station staffers, one as a registration attendant, and one to assist with line control.

How do I promote my Local competition?
We want to encourage everyone to come to the event, including fans and media. As part of your “FIT KIT”, you will also receive promotional posters that you can hang throughout your facility promoting the date, time, and location of your event.

What are the age groups and what is the age cut-off date?
The four (4) age groups are: 8 and under, 9-10, 11-12, and 13-14 with boys and girls competing separately (age is determined as of February 12, 2010). See age verification chart below.

How many Local participants advance to the Regional level?
Each Local Administrator will declare a Champion in each age and gender group. Since there are eight (8) different competition groups, there will be eight (8) 1st Place Champions per Local Competition (4 boys and 4 girls).
The participants who qualify to advance to the NBA FIT/WNBA FIT Challenge Regional Competition are the 1st Place Champions in each of the age and gender groups. THE 1ST PLACE LOCAL CHAMPIONS DO NOT AUTOMATICALLY ADVANCE TO THE REGIONAL COMPETITION. His/her score must first be compared with the other Local Champions in that specific team market to determine the top four (4) finishers in each age and gender group competing at the NBA FIT/WNBA FIT Challenge Regional Competition. All Local Champions will be notified by the NBA FIT/WNBA FIT Challenge Headquarters if they advance to the Regional Competition.

May my child compete in more than one (1) Local Competition?
Yes. Participants may compete in more than one (1) local competition.

Where will the National Finals be held?
The 2010 NBA FIT/WNBA FIT Challenge National Finals will be held during NBA All-Star 2010 in Dallas, Texas, February 12–14, 2010.

How long will the competition last?
Five (5) participants compete at five (5) stations at the same time. Each exercise station is timed in thirty (:30) second increments. Therefore, you can have approximately twenty (20) participants complete the NBA FIT/WNBA FIT Challenge every ten (10) minutes.

What if there is a tie score at my local or regional competition?
If a tie for 1st Place occurs, each participant involved in the tie should have their jump-rope scores compared. The participant with the higher jump-rope score will be named Champion. If a tie still exists, the participant with the higher speed-revolution score should be named Champion. If a tie still exists, the participant with the higher wall-pass score should be named Champion.

How can I get a Local competition in my community?
Please encourage your local YMCA, Boys & Girls Club, Parks & Recreation Agency, PAL, JCC, private youth basketball league, or other civic organization to register to host an NBA FIT/WNBA FIT Challenge local competition by registering at www.nba.com/nbafit/fitchallenge/registration. *Local competitions must be held between September 15, 2009, and November 15, 2009.

How do participants advance?
Participants in each age and gender group from your local competition with the highest combined total score from each of the five (5) stations have the opportunity to advance to the Regional Competition (held between 11/15/2009 and 1/17/2010 - location TBD) and possibly the National Finals to be held at NBA All-Star 2010 in Dallas, Texas in February.
