Q&A with Chandler Parsons

1. Can you talk a little bit about what being a member of the NBA/WNBA FIT Team means to you?
Being a member of the NBA/WNBA FIT Team is a real honor. I take a lot of pride in staying healthy and making sure my body is prepared for a full NBA season, and I am proud to share what I do to stay healthy with others.

2. What is one cool fact fans would be interested to know about you?
Something fans might not know is that I really love watching and playing tennis.

3. During the NBA season, you are constantly staying active between practices and games. What do you do during the off season to stay in shape and improve your skills for the next season?
For me, the offseason is extremely important to maintain and even improve the shape I am in during the NBA season. Specifically, I make sure I am eating healthy and spending hours in the gym each day working not only on my game but also my shape. Playing competitively against other players during the offseason is also a great way to stay in shape.

4. When you were growing up, how important was it for you to stay active and play sports? Aside from basketball, what other sports did you play?
My parents always encouraged me to stay active, and sports were definitely the main way I did. Aside from basketball, I also played baseball. I was a shortstop.

5. With such a busy travel and game schedule, how do you manage to eat healthy? What does your diet look like on a typical game day?
It was certainly difficult at first to develop a routine of eating healthy with all of the travel that is associated with playing in the NBA, but I feel I am pretty good at it now. I donít really have a specific pre-game meal, but I make sure to have some type of protein and vegetables. That gives me the most energy for a game.

6. When you were growing up, what were some of your favorite outdoor activities that you did with your friends?
Well pick-up basketball games were definitely at the top of my list.

7. When youíre tired or busy how do you motivate yourself to work out? What do you do to keep your workouts from getting boring?
While there are times during an NBA season when Iím tired and busy, I know that getting a workout in is essential to maintaining the physical shape necessary to succeed at the highest level. In terms of what I do to keep my workouts from getting boring, I like to change up the drills and exercises I do on a daily basis. Also, I like to work out with different people each time, as this keeps it more exciting.

8. Staying active is a lot more fun when the whole family is involved. What types of activities did you do with your family to stay healthy?
Growing up my family and I would try and get outside as much as possible. Whether it was a quick pick-up game of basketball or whiffle ball in the backyard, we were all about doing anything competitive!

9. A healthy breakfast is a very important meal because it fuels your body with energy to help you focus and perform throughout the day. What do you eat for breakfast to get you going for the day?
Iím big into fruits, and I try to make that a part of every breakfast. I try to incorporate orange juice or milk into my daily breakfast as well.

10. It is easy to cut down on sleep when you have a busy schedule. How important is it to your body to get a solid amount of sleep every night?
Getting a good nightís sleep is huge for me. If I donít feel refreshed in the morning, I find it really difficult to be productive during either practice or a game. I try to get at least 7 hours of sleep a night.

11. Is there a fun or unique fitness routine or tip you do on a regular basis that you can share?
Before I step out on the floor I like to get in a quick set of push-ups. Itís strange, but for some reason it gets me into a competitive mindset.
