December 9, 2003 -- Just like you can't have peanut butter without the jelly, frick without frack and NBA without Buzz, Sports Illustrated decided you can't have one Sportsman of the Year without his in-the-paint partner.

Tim Duncan and David Robinson, who led the Spurs to their second title in five seasons in June, are the 2003 Sports Illustrated Sportsmen of the Year. This is the fourth time NBA players have been honored (Bill Russell, 1968; Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, 1985; and Michael Jordan, 1991). Completing a rare double, Duncan also earned the ABC’s Wide World of Sports 2003 Athlete of the Year.

Duncan and Robinson were honored during a one-hour special on the Fox Television Network. The Sportsman of the Year issue, dated December 15, 2003, hits newsstands tomorrow. ABC Sports featured Duncan in The Thrill of Victory 2003 Presented by Bank of America:
