NEW YORK, March 21, 2006 – NBA TV’s news series Toyota’s Moving Forward Moments follows Amare Stoudemire of the Phoenix Suns as he teams up with Toyota to travel to Hurricane Katrina-ravaged New Orleans and donate 10 Toyota Prius Hybrids to residents of Louisiana impacted by the disaster, in its upcoming episode on Tuesday, March 28, at 6 p.m. ET.

“It leaves you speechless,” says Stoudemire as he drives past devastated homes and overturned cars destroyed by the August storm. “Once you see it up close and personal, it is pretty rough to take. It just isn’t a certain area. The whole city and just about the whole state have been wiped out.”

Hosted by Andre Aldridge, this half-hour series follows an NBA player as he returns to his hometown to surprise his mentor and to reminisce about the powerful influence that person had on his life. In this special edition, Stoudemire visits 10 women, who have served as mentors in their communities as 4-H volunteer leaders, but lost almost everything as a result of the hurricane. He takes viewers through parts of Louisiana and visits some of the victims’ homes on his way to meet the women, whom he surprises with the gift to help get their lives back on track.

Viewers will witness Stoudemire present a Toyota not just to one of the women, as they were told that he was going to do, but to all 10 of them. Stoudemire and Toyota teamed up for the special presentation of the free cars and covered all taxes and registration fees.

4-H is the youth development and outreach program of the nation’s land-grant university system. The organization provides young people with a variety of educational projects and activities designed to help them develop knowledge and skills that will benefit them throughout their lives. Volunteer leaders play vital roles in helping to reach young people across the country.

Continuing a tradition of basketball and service to the community, the NBA and its players have been helping with the rebuilding efforts throughout the Gulf Region through NBA Cares. The league’s global community outreach initiative, NBA Cares builds on the league’s long tradition of addressing important social issues with an emphasis on programs that support education, youth and family development, and health-related causes.

NBA TV’s Toyota’s Moving Forward Moments presents a unique opportunity for NBA players to share their stories, experiences and ideals while touring a community that has impacted their lives in a new Toyota. In a surprising conclusion to each episode, NBA stars display their appreciation for the community that supported them and the mentor that helped drive them towards their goals. Each mentor is presented with a gift of the Toyota vehicle showcased during the tour as a sign of appreciation for the vital role that person played in the NBA player’s life.

Past episodes in this series have included the New Jersey Nets Richard Jefferson’s journey to his hometown of Phoenix, Arizona; the L.A. Clippers Elton Brand’s return to Peekskill, N.Y.; the Milwaukee Bucks T.J. Ford’s Houston homecoming; and New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets Chris Paul’s emotional return to Winston Salem, N.C., where he presented a Toyota to the foundation he created in memory of his mentor, his beloved grandfather who was tragically murdered while Chris was in high school.

Toyota’s Moving Forward Moments also are featured in the form of one-minute vignettes during select NBA halftime programming on ESPN. In addition, a dedicated page devoted to the series is located on NBA.com.
