World AIDS Day 2009

On December 1, 2009, the NBA Family will recognize World AIDS Day to generate awareness and funds around HIV/AIDS. Observed every year since 1988, World AIDS Day provides governments, organizations, and individuals with an opportunity to raise awareness and focus attention on the global AIDS epidemic. HIV is still a deadly but entirely preventable disease. In fact, every 9 minutes, another person in the United States becomes infected with HIV. The NBA has partnered with the Global Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, the CDC and the Kaiser Family Foundation on World AIDS Day.

TEAM ACTIVITIES

  • On December 1, NBA Coaches are wearing Red Ties, on behalf of NBA Coaches Association partner, Joseph Abboud, in an effort to raise awareness around World AIDS Day.

  • The Orlando Magic will run a PSA in-arena, set-up a "Hope and Help" table on the concourse during tonight's game, and host a Mobile HIV testing unit at the pregame Fan Fest where fans can get tested for free.
  • The Los Angeles Lakers will run in-arena a PSA from AIDS Project Los Angeles and donate group tickets to the AIDS Service Center, The Serra Project/Aids for Aids, and AIDS Project Los Angeles.
