International Preseason Games
NBA teams travel overseas each preseason, providing fans in these regions with the opportunity to experience NBA basketball live. In addition to bringing the game to local fans, visiting players, coaches, NBA Legends, and NBA league office executives participate in community outreach efforts as part of the event. These activities generally range from the creation of live, learn and play spaces to basketball clinics.
China Games 2010 - Beijing & Guangzhou
The New Jersey Nets dedicated refurbished basketball courts and hosted a basketball skills clinic for 80 students at local Beijing schools. Donations of basketballs and books were also made. Additionally, the Houston Rockets held a special clinic for hearing impaired athletes in Guangzhou.
NBA Mexico Game 2010 - Mexico City
Players and coaches from both the San Antonio Spurs and the Los Angeles Clippers hosted a basketball clinic for Special Olympics athletes during NBA Mexico Game 2010 in Mexico City. Players and coaches taught basketball athletes the fundamentals of basketball.
Europe Live 2010 - London, Barcelona, Paris & Milan
During Europe Live 2010, the Minnesota Timberwolves hosted a special youth NBA Cares clinic in London, England. In Barcelona, Spain, the Los Angeles Lakers held an NBA Cares event while the New York Knicks led an NBA Cares Special Olympics clinic in Paris, France, and dedicated a court in Milan, Italy.
NBA Mexico Game 2009 - Monterrey
Players and coaches from both the Philadelphia 76ers and Phoenix Suns hosted a basketball clinic for Special Olympics athletes during NBA Mexico Game 2009 in Monterrey, Mexico. Players and coaches taught basketball skills fundamentals to the athletes during this fun-filled event.
Europe Live 2009 - London and Madrid
During Europe Live 2009, NBA Legends hosted a basketball clinic for Special Olympics athletes while Chicago Bulls players hosted a clinic for local children in London, England. In Madrid, Spain, Utah Jazz and Real Madrid players hosted a clinic for Special Olympics athletes.
The Denver Nuggets, along with NBA executives, officially dedicated a NBA Cares Learn and Play Space at the Chun Feng Primary School. The space, created in partnership with the Beijing Charity Association, features a renovated basketball court, library, new ping-pong tables, and more.
During NBA Games 2009, the Indiana Pacers hosted a basketball skills clinic for 80 Taiwanese children. In partnership with World Vision Taiwan, NBA Cares also supported Typhoon Morakot relief efforts with a PSA and online auction to raise funds and awarness for the cause.
