Mavs SBC Home Court Webisodes
SAN ANTONIO, Feb. 15, 2005 – Die-hard basketball fans now have a shot to see how their favorite players play off the court. Fans can catch a glimpse this month of Dallas Mavericks rookie Devin Harris as the first player to appear in SBC Home Court, a series of streaming video “webisodes” in which players treat fans to a personal tour of their digs, available by clicking here.
Energetic Zach Selwyn, who sports enthusiasts may recognize as announcer for Extreme Dodgeball and finalist for ESPN’s Dream Job, hosts the series.
During the segments, viewers can click on SBC icons that reveal trivia tidbits about the players, their homes and their tech habits. Each streaming video contains around 20 “clickable” items, and the site keeps score as to which factoids visitors have uncovered and which they have missed in each scene.
This month’s SBC Home Court webisode highlights Devin Harris, about whom fans can learn:
He likes to grill atop his rooftop with another Mavericks star (revealed online)
That same rooftop boasts a hot tub
His DVR is set weekly to record The O.C.
To keep the action fresh, webisodes featuring new players will be introduced throughout the month of March – including Mavericks guard Marquis Daniels – along with summary songs and outtakes. Fans can sign up for e-mail alerts that notify them when new webisodes are released.
“Our customers expect us to keep them connected to their families, friends and coworkers. Through our sponsorship with the Dallas Mavericks, we’re connecting them to the unexpected – their favorite players,” said Eric Fernandez, director, SBC Sponsorship and Events.
In addition to Mavericks cagers, the nine-week SBC Home Court campaign will go inside the homes of other basketball elites for the San Antonio Spurs (www.spurs.com), Houston Rockets (www.rockets.com) and Milwaukee Bucks (www.bucks.com).
The program gives fans a chance to even out the playing field when it comes to living a high-tech lifestyle. In addition to links to existing SBC product and service offers available throughout the webisode, online visitors to the team sites can enter a consumer sweepstakes through the end of April for a chance to score a primetime SBC “Home Court” of their own – a plasma TV, laptop and printer, digital camera and SBC cordless phone. Four sweepstakes winners will be announced in May, culminating the nine-week campaign.
Supporting media spots for the campaign will air on local television and radio to help drive traffic to the team site.
