Mayor Miller Wagers with Miami Mayor
DALLAS (June 6, 2006) – Dallas Mayor Laura Miller and Miami Mayor Manny Diaz have entered into a friendly wager on the outcome of the NBA Finals between the Dallas Mavericks and the Miami Heat. The trip to the NBA Finals is the first for either team.
“Living in Dallas, the Mavericks are accustomed to the Texas heat, so facing the Miami Heat will be a breeze. All of North Texas is experiencing “Mavs Mania” and I’ve become the team’s biggest fan. I’m counting down the days until Mayor Diaz has to put on his cowboy boots and Dirk Nowitzki autographed jersey,” said Mayor Miller.
“The Mavericks are ‘mucho sombrero, y sin vacas - all hat, and no cattle,’” said Mayor Diaz. “We are so excited about the Heat’s first trip to the NBA Finals and confident that the Heat will dispatch the Mavericks that I have wagered some of Miami’s finest offerings.”
The Mayors personally outlined the details of the wager during the 74th annual meeting of the U.S. Conference of Mayors in Las Vegas earlier this week. Each Mayor has agreed to share traditional fare and garments from their city. They have also agreed to participate in a “Jersey Swap” in which the representative of the defeated city will wear the opposition’s jersey – autographed by a star player - to a meeting of their respective city council meetings.
Miami’s Part of the Bet – Stonecrabs, Cuban Fare and Tropical Treats
Once the Mavericks beat the Heat, Mayor Miller can expect to receive the following offerings from Miami:
Dallas’ Part of the Bet – Cowboy Boots, Tex-Mex and BBQ
In the unlikely event that the Heat win the series Mayor Miller will forward a select choice of Dallas’ local delicacies to Mayor Diaz in Miami including:
