Mavs Re-Sign Jason Terry


DALLAS (July 25, 2006) — The Dallas Mavericks announced today that they have re-signed veteran guard Jason Terry. As per club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Terry (6-2, 180) was Dallas’ second-leading scorer last season registering 17.1 points while starting in each of his 80 games. He also averaged a team-high 3.8 assists along with 2.0 rebounds and 1.25 steals. Shooting 47.0% from the floor and 41.1% from 3-point range, Terry was invited to be one of six contestants in the Foot Locker Three-Point Shootout during All-Star Weekend in Houston. In 2005-06, he ranked 10th in the NBA in 3-pointers made and 18th in 3-point shooting percentage.

The Seattle native elevated his game during the Mavericks 2006 Playoff run to the NBA Finals by increasing his scoring average to 18.9. Terry recorded two 30+ point games during the Finals where he averaged 20.3 points against the Miami Heat.

The Mavericks acquired Terry, along with Alan Henderson and a future first round pick, via a trade with Atlanta for Tony Delk and Antoine Walker on Aug. 4, 2004. The seventh-year pro holds career averages of 15.8 points, 5.3 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 1.42 steals in his 563 games.
