DALLAS (July 13, 2006) — The Dallas Mavericks announced today they have re-signed center DJ Mbenga. Per club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Mbenga (7-0, 245), a 25-year-old native of the Congo, played 43 games for the Mavericks last season and started once. He averaged 1.7 points, 1.3 rebounds and 0.53 blocks per game while shooting 53.3% (32-60 FGs) from the field. He recorded career-highs of 8 points against Sacramento (4/4/06) and 5 blocks against New York (2/13/06). In his two seasons with Dallas, he has played 58 games and holds career averages of 1.5 points, 1.1 rebounds and 0.52 blocks per game.
Mbenga, a black belt in judo, speaks five languages: two dialects from the Congo, French, Portuguese and English.
