DALLAS - The Dallas Mavericks announced today that they have re-signed guard Marquis Daniels. Per club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Daniels (6-6, 200), who was not selected in last year’s NBA Draft, was signed by Dallas as a free agent on July 29, 2003 after an impressive showing on the Mavericks’ summer league team. He played sparingly for the first two-thirds of the regular season before a two game injury to Steve Nash at the start of March afforded Daniels more playing time.

Daniels posted near triple-doubles in both of those games and built off of that success the rest of the season. He averaged 14.0 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.50 steals over the final two months of the season (24 games) and 20.7 points (53.0% FGs), 6.2 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 2.09 steals over the final 11 games. Daniels was also the Mavericks’ second leading scorer in the playoffs with an average of 15.8 points per game.

On the season, Daniels appeared in 56 games with 15 starts and averaged 8.5 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists. He was named to the NBA’s All-Rookie Second Team along with teammate Josh Howard. Daniels is expected to join the Mavericks’ entry in the Reebok Rocky Mountain Revue which begins play in Salt Lake City this Friday.
