Mavs Complete Trade With Hawks

DALLAS (August 4, 2004) -- The Dallas Mavericks announced today that they have traded guard Tony Delk and forward Antoine Walker to the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for forward Alan Henderson, guard Jason Terry and a future first round pick the Hawks owned via Philadelphia.

Terry (6-2, 180), the Hawks’ second leading scorer and top assistman in 2003-04, has missed just seven games in his five year career. In 81 games for Atlanta last season, Terry averaged 16.8 points, 5.4 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.53 steals in 37.3 minutes per game. He ranked 18th in the league in assists per game and 16th in steals per game. In 403 career games, Terry has averaged 16.2 points, 5.5 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 1.46 steals in 34.8 minutes per game.

Terry was the 10th overall pick in the 1999 NBA Draft by the Hawks. He finished his collegiate career as Arizona’s all-time leader in steals and the only player in school history to collect more than 1,000 career points and 200 career steals. He capped off his senior season by being named First Team All-American by The Associated Press, National Player of the Year by Sports Illustrated and Pac-10 Player of the Year.

Henderson (6-9, 240) completed his ninth season with the Hawks, but only appeared in six games due to back problems. In 2002-03, Henderson saw action in all 82 games, with averages of 4.8 points and 4.9 rebounds in 18.2 minutes per game. For his career, Henderson has averaged 9.4 points and 5.5 rebounds in 485 career games during the regular season and 6.5 points and 3.3 boards in 25 playoff games.

The former Indiana University standout earned the NBA’s Most Improved Player award in 1997-98 after averaging 14.3 points and 6.4 rebounds, up from 6.6 point and 3.9 boards the previous year. Henderson is the only Indiana University player to rank in the school’s top five in scoring, rebounding, blocked shots and steals.

Delk (6-2, 189) and Walker (6-9, 245) were both acquired by Dallas in a preseason trade with Boston on 10/20/03. Last season, Delk appeared in 33 games with 11 starts and averaged 6.0 points and 1.8 rebounds in 15.4 minutes per game. Walker was the only Maverick to start all 82 games in 2003-04, and averaged 14.0 points, 8.3 rebounds and 4.5 assists in 34.6 minutes per game. In January, Walker posted back-to-back triple-doubles at New York (1/12/04) and vs. Philadelphia (1/14/04), becoming the first Maverick to accomplish that feat since Jason Kidd.
