Nowitzki/Nellie Receive Top Honors at DASA Awards Banquet

Nowitzki was presented with a cake to commemorate his 23rd birthday (June 19th).
On June 18th, Dirk Nowitzki and Don Nelson received top honors at the 36th annual Dallas All Sports Association awards banquet at the Fairmont Hotel in Dallas.

Nowitzki, who averaged 21.8 points per game and recorded 38 double-doubles during the 00-01 season, was in attendance at the black-tie affair to receive the D/FW Pro Athlete of the Year award, as well as co-Mavs MVP honors along with teammates Steve Nash and Michael Finley.

Nelson, who was also present, took home Tom Landry Professional Coach of the Year honors and the Gary Bridwell Courage Award for the adversity he faced during this past season. Mavs assistant Del Harris was in attendance to present Nellie with the courage award.

Also in attendance was Mavs center Shawn Bradley who took home the Children's Medical Center/Athlete Role Model award for his work off the court and Mavs owner Mark Cuban, who received the Sports Personality of the Year award.

Nellie thanked everyone for the Gary Bridwell Courage award.
Cuban was named the Sports Personality of the Year.
Tom Landry Jr. presented Nellie with the Tom Landry Coach of the Year award.
