Cooperstein’s Comments Oct. 18
Radio play-by-play announcer Chuck Cooperstein shared some of his thoughts about tonight's game.
The most encouraging thing about tonight’s win for the Mavericks was the fact that they could win against a very physical team where points were going to be at a premium and win the game because of their defense. The Mavs allowed the Pistons to shoot 60% from the floor in the first half, and obviously that is not going to cut it. Mavs players understood what they needed to do and came out and held the Pistons to 14 of 49 shooting in the second half.
Devin Harris was sensational tonight, and it was certainly his best game of the preseason. He finished with 20 points, and scored 13 of the Mavs 28 pts in the fourth quarter. Jason Terry had not been shooting the ball very well in the preseason. He had shot just 36% coming into tonight’s game, but tonight shot 6 of 11 from the field, including 3 of 5 from three-point range for a total of 15 points. Terry really got the Mavs going in the third quarter by making eight quick points to give them the lead.
The Mavs bench, which did not play great Sunday night in NY, was much better tonight and got the Mavs the lead that helped them win the game. They went on an 11-1 run to start the fourth quarter, and the Pistons were not able to regain the lead after that.
The team is very much looking forward to coming home and playing in front of their fans at American Airlines Center Friday night against the Knicks. The fact that the Mavs will be home the remainder of the preseason makes it much easier for them to prepare for the regular season. They have had a good taste of the road and now they get a chance to work in their own surroundings, which will help them better prepare for the season opener in Phoenix Nov. 1.
