Wheelchair Mav to Play in All-Star Wheelchair Classic

DATELINE- - The National Basketball Association announced today that 20 of the best wheelchair basketball players from 19 cities across the United States will participate in the 2003 NBA/NWBA All-Star Wheelchair Classic. The NBA/NWBA All-Star Wheelchair Classic will be held on NBA All-Star Jam Session’s Center Court at the Georgia World Congress Center on Thursday, February 6 at 5 p.m.

The 2003 NBA/NWBA All-Star Wheelchair Classic will feature the top athletes selected from teams that are members of the National Wheelchair Basketball Association. The players, selected by the National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA), are divided into East and West All-Stars.

In addition to the 2003 NBA/NWBA All-Star Wheelchair Classic, the East and West All-Stars, their coaches, former NBA players Lafayette “Fat” Lever and Mike Glenn and present WNBA players, will host a wheelchair basketball clinic for 50 youth from the Atlanta area. The clinic will take place at the Bernie Marcus Jewish Community Center on Wednesday, February 5 from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

In addition to the 2003 NBA/NWBA Wheelchair Classic, Jam Session will feature more than 350,000 square feet of basketball activities and games. Fans of all ages can test their basketball passing skills while battling a bungee cord, enjoy the sounds of today's hottest musical artists, see their favorite NBA and WNBA players, slam dunk, launch a jump shot from a trampoline, shoot baskets with a slingshot, make their own personalized basketball trading card, test their trivia skills, and much more.

Jam Session also features NBA and WNBA player autograph sessions and clinics and a complete collection of authentic NBA apparel and NBA All-Star 2003 souvenirs. The hours of operation for the NBA All-Star Jam Session are as follows: Thursday, February 6, 4:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m.; Friday, February 7, noon-3:00 p.m.; Saturday, February 8, 9:00 a.m.-10:00 p.m.; Sunday, February 9, 9:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m.

Tickets for NBA All-Star Jam Session are on sale now and are available at all Ticketmaster Outlets, Ticketmaster.com, 1-800-4NBA-TIX, the Box Office at Philips Arena, and NBA.com. Ticket prices are $15 for adults and $10 for kids ages 3 through 12. Fans who are attending Jam Session can see their favorite performers, free of charge on a first-come first-serve basis.

NBA All-Star 2003 will be hosted by the Atlanta Hawks, February 3-9, and will bring one of the world’s premier sporting events to the city of Atlanta. The world’s greatest athletes will showcase the game of basketball on an international stage during NBA All-Star 2003, a series of events that highlights the NBA’s most talented players and illustrates their commitment to charitable endeavors.
