Rashard Lewis Visited the Mavs July 25

Rashard Lewis went on one college recruiting visit when he was a high school senior in 1998. Of course, it was not necessary for him to look at colleges because he ended up going directly from Alief Elsik High School into the National Basketball Association.

But the one college visit that Rashard took back then was nothing compared to the Dallas Mavericks Campus visit that Don Nelson and Mark Cuban orchestrated today. Coach Nelson called the “full-courting” press that had Rashard and his family dashing around Dallas in a stretch limousine like the Rolling Stones on Tour.

Rashard arrived in Dallas via American Airlines around lunchtime. He was greeted at the airport baggage claim by a large crowd of approximately 300 Mavericks fans who all cheered and held signs of support in hopes of helping the Mavericks snag the athletic forward who just finished his fourth season in the NBA.

As Lewis made his way through the crowd of people, he answered media questions that were coming from all directions. He waved at fans that were screaming ‘Rashard Come to Dallas!’ Six Dallas Mavericks Dancer were holding a sign that read “Welcome Rashard Lewis.” Mavericks staff members were attempting to get his group of visitors, which included his mother Juanita Goodman, his step-father Leroy Brown, a good friend Travis Eskridge, and his two agents Carl Poston and Kevin Poston, loaded into two awaiting limos.

After the group left the airport they headed downtown to the Mansion on Turtle Creek where they checked in and ate lunch before they headed over to American Airlines Center.

At American Airlines Center, Rashard meet with Maverick Chaplain Tony Evans then headed to the Mavericks locker room where his locker was already complete with Rashard Lewis #43 jerseys. Lewis’ mother commented that the tour was “awesome” and she was “very happy” with the attention that the Mavericks were giving her son.

The group finished their tour of the Maverick facilities by heading down to the Mavericks practice court where Rashard was greeted by 100 screaming Boys and Girls Club members who all hounded him for his autograph. While signing, the gymnasium load speakers piped Maverick audio highlights that included Rashard taking a pass from Dirk Nowitzki and hitting a buzzer-beating jumper to defeat the Los Angeles Lakers 114-113.

After Rashard finished signing he answered a few more questions from the media and summed up his visit with this:” They are definitely making me feel at home. I expected this kinda stuff from Mark. But it is still impressive and puts a smile on my face.”

Put a smile on our face Rashard - sign with the Mavericks.
