Organ Donor Awareness Night 2004
On Tuesday, Jan. 20th, the Mavs hosted Organ Donor Awareness night, in honor of Alonzo Mourning, who recently received a kidney transplant.
The Mavs and Southwest Transplant Alliance had 50 North Texas organ transplant recipients (including Amy Hall - sister of Utah Jazz Center Greg Ostertag, who received Greg’s kidney) on court at halftime, representing the 50 lives that can be saved by one person choosing to be an organ donor.
The recipients also distributed donor cards as fans entered American Airlines Center.
Eight of the recipients were 18 or under and all came from the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. Two Mavs staffers who donated the organs of loved ones who passed away recently also joined the 50 recipients on-court.
