The Dallas Mavericks announced today that they have selected guard Renaldas Seibutis with the 50th overall selection of the 2007 NBA Draft.
Seibutis (6-5, 180), a native of Mezeikiai, Lithuania, averaged 10.9 points and 2.2 rebounds over the last two seasons in Greece’s A-1 League. Last season, with Maroussi, he contributed 13.2 points and 1.9 rebounds while ranking third in the league in 3-point field goal percentage (.472).
A member of the Lithuanian National Team, he helped his country to the gold medal at the 2005 FIBA Under-21 World Championships in Argentina and was named tournament MVP after averaging 14.5 points, 2.1 rebounds and 3.0 assists.
“We look at Seibutis as a player on the upswing,” General Manager Donnie Nelson said. “We hope to develop him possibly overseas next year and then look for him to make an impact after that. We think he has tremendous potential with the ability to play both guard spots.”
