Entering his 10th season in the NBA, Jones has averaged 7.3 points and 7.8 rebounds a game in 504 career games with five NBA teams. He was drafted by the Houston Rockets as the 41st pick in the 1992 NBA Draft and traded to Dallas for the rights to Eric Riley on 6/30/93.

This is his second stint with the Mavericks as he played his first three NBA seasons in Dallas (1993-94, 1994-95 and 1995-96). During the 1994-95 and 1995-96 seasons, he averaged a double-double in points and rebounds. In 1994-95, he led the NBA in total offensive rebounds with 329 (4.1 a game). He still holds the Mavericks rookie record for most rebounds in a season with 605 and owns the Mavericks franchise record for most rebounds in a single game (28) set on 1/9/96.

Last season, Jones played 79 games and started 40 for the Washington Wizards. He averaged 7.0 points and 7.3 rebounds in 24.3 minutes per game, which were his most productive numbers since the 1996-97 season. He shot .437 from the field and .815 from the free throw line.
