Mavericks Sign Brandon Bass

The Dallas Mavericks announced today that they have signed free agent forward Brandon Bass. As per club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Bass (6-8, 240), a native of Baton Rouge, La., spent two seasons with the New Orleans Hornets after being selected with the 33rd overall pick in the 2005 NBA Draft. In 50 career games, he holds averages of 2.2 points and 2.2 rebounds in 8.6 minutes per contest.

Bass spent July traveling to Las Vegas and Salt Lake City with the Mavericks Summer League team. In Las Vegas, he led the team in scoring with 14.8 points, while registering 6.2 rebounds and 1.0 blocks in 19.2 minutes per game. He shot 61.5% from the floor in Utah where he averaged 10.0 points and 5.0 rebounds in two games.

The former LSU standout was named Southeastern Conference Player of the Year as a sophomore while averaging 17.3 points per game and leading the SEC in field goal percentage (.567). He was also named the SEC's Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2005.
