On the game: "It was another game with a regular season feel to it, which is good for us. A lot of our young guys were in there at the end, and they really played hard. I thought defensively we picked up the intensity in the second half. We were a little lethargic in the first half. But again, you had two tigers of teams going at it tonight; we were just fortunate enough that we won the game." On his young players: "We got some great stuff on film-a lot of good stuff to learn from. Devin can learn from a lot of stuff, Josh Powell can learn from a lot of stuff. I thought Rawle Marshall, coming back home in front of his family and friends, really made some key free throws for us tonight. He got four rebounds, so that was a big key." On Marquis Daniels: "Marquis has been steady. He's a guy that I need to fill up the stat sheet with assists, rebounds, steals-three steals tonight, seven rebounds, three assists-that's what we expect."
On his play: "I don't think I played that great, but it's just one of those days where I got it going early, continued it throughout the fourth quarter, got some good looks at the basket and was just finishing. Everything was going in for me today." On the key to winning the game down the stretch: "We just wanted to shut it down and get good looks at the basket. Keith [Van Horn] was doing a good job of getting in the middle. They were a little bit aggressive on the screen and rolls and we were splitting it kind of easy, getting in the lanes and getting some easy buckets."
"We did some good things and some bad things. That is what exhibition is all about. Offensively, the first half, we executed well, had good shots, distributed the ball well and had way too many turnovers. I thought we had a lot of unforced turnovers and that led to some easy scores for them. I thought down the stretch, the young kids we had in there, I thought those guys played pretty well the last four and a half minutes. We still have a lot of things we have to work on, and that is what this exhibition season is all about." On Chauncey and Darko: "We weren't really man (defense), but the way they were playing looked like a zone so we did not have a lot of movement on the weak side." On combinations: "Yes, I thought I wanted to give some of those guys some opportunities. With the other group, I thought that (Carlos) Arroyo played pretty well with the first group. He made some really good decisions. But I thought he had his best six minutes in the third quarter, starting to get a little bit of rhythm. He will not play nearly as much tomorrow night, we will give him a little bit of rest."
On Coach Saunders' offense: "It's just trying to get familiar with the system, all the plays. Most of us have played together, that's the biggest part of it. Knowing the offense is just knowing each other's strengths, so we're not playing catch up with that. We'll be all right."
On the offense: "I think a lot of times we run up and down the court. One thing that we do is really try to run our offense crisp. I think the more we're out there, the more we're playing, the more we learn in practice, the better we get. On Chauncey's familiarity with the system: "It helps a lot. With Chauncey playing in Minnesota he knows the play calling and things like that." | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
