Victor Villalba - Spanish Language Sports Personality

A former corporate treasurer by trade, Victor Villalba reached a crossroads in 1994 and decided that a leap of faith was in order. A graduate of Texas Tech University with a Finance degree and an MBA from the prestigious Instituto Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, Villalba left behind a promising finance position with a multi-million dollar Mexican-Japanese Corporation headquartered in Monterrey, Mexico, to focus his attention in a communications career.

The arrival in the Dallas-Fort Worth market began with an assignments editor position in Univision’s newsroom, and shortly thereafter reporting and sports anchoring. Within the next six months, Villalba moved to the public relations arena as the account executive for an international agency as a teammate on a telecommunications account.

The first call of the Dallas Cowboys came in 1996, offering the color analyst position for the Spanish language radio broadcast, and by the 1997 season this assignment included producing and hosting television programming. A whirlwind followed when becoming the VP of public relations of a Hispanic marketing firm moved the Villalba clan from Dallas to Houston to Los Angeles, a position that brought his enthusiasm for community outreach and creative thought for Spanish language programming into full swing.

By 2002 the second calling of the Dallas Cowboys lured Villalba back to Texas, as the club explored ways to bring production and affiliate relations in-house as part of the growing Broadcasting Department for English language properties. By 2003 Villalba’s role was expanded to executive producer of television and radio properties for the team, affiliate relations with stations in the US and Mexico, and an active participant of strategies to reach the growing appetite for Spanish language properties tied to the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.

In 2005 Villalba added Spanish language play-by-play and Hispanic marketing consulting for the Dallas Mavericks, just in time to enjoy the ride all the way to the NBA Finals. His busy schedule will include calling the games once again for the defending Western Conference champs, along with being a part of the club’s Speakers Bureau. During the 2005-2006 season he was visible in the NBA’s “Read to Achieve” community outreach program, along with participating as a guest speaker in schools throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.

A resident of Coppell, Texas, the Villalba’s include wife Olga, and daughters Katia Michelle and Kristina Marie.
