ORLANDO
Magic Head Coach Stan Van Gundy has always maintained that the secret to being a great coach is having great players.

However, there’s a lot more that goes into making him one of the most prepared game managers in the NBA than his humble motto insinuates.

He spends countless hours reviewing film, knows the opposition’s offensive and defensive sets inside and out and puts his players through mentally and physically challenging practices that have them ready for optimum performance on game day.

While a behind-the-scenes look into his world is not available to the general public, a number of select Magic partners recently had the opportunity to pick his brain.

Van Gundy spoke to the lucky group for over an hour about his coaching style, his road to the NBA, how he prepares for practice, his game day routine and much more.
