The Orlando Magic Youth Fund, a McCormick Foundation Fund, Distributes $1 Million to the Central Florida Community for Second Consecutive Year

January 18, 2012

Orlando, Fla – In what is becoming an annual tradition, the Orlando Magic Youth Fund, a McCormick Foundation Fund (OMYF-MFF), in a surprise ceremony on Wednesday, January 18 at the Amway Center, announced its OMYF All-Star Team presenting checks totaling $1 million to 19 grantee organizations from three counties in Central Florida (Orange, Seminole and Osceola). This is the second consecutive year the OMYF has presented checks totaling $1 million.

The OMYF All-Star team was announced in the spirit of the NBA Draft as each non-profit organization was recognized and presented with an OMYF jersey or specialty basketball. Representatives were greeted by Orlando Magic Chairman Dan DeVos, Orlando Magic CEO Alex Martins, Magic Community Ambassadors Nick Anderson and Bo Outlaw, Magic Vice President of Community Relations and Government Affairs Linda Landman-Gonzalez and the OMYF team.

With funds raised through OMYF, and the match provided by the McCormick Foundation, a total of $1 million in grants was distributed to these charities. In addition to the OMYF All-Star team announcement, the organizations will be recognized at halftime of the Wednesday, January 18 Magic versus Spurs matchup.

After an extensive five-phase process, which began in July of 2011, the beneficiaries were recommended by the OMYF “VIP” Committee and the Advisory Council and then approved by the McCormick Foundation’s Board of Directors.

“We are proud to be able to assist these very deserving organizations who work tirelessly to improve the lives of youth in Central Florida,” said Orlando Magic CEO Alex Martins. “It is only possible through a collaborative effort of this community, the DeVos family, our players, coaches, staff, corporate partners and season ticket holders that we are capable of distributing $1 million for the second consecutive year. We especially want to recognize and thank those who work every day with the youth of our community…they are the true heroes.”

From educational and arts programs to health programs focused on preventing childhood obesity, the Orlando Magic Youth Foundation is dedicated to nourishing the minds and bodies of children that need it most.

The OMYF is committed to helping children in Central Florida realize their full potential, especially those most at-risk, by supporting programs and partnerships that empower families and change lives.

Over the last 22 years, nearly $17 million has been distributed to local non-profit community organizations via the Orlando Magic Youth Fund, a McCormick Foundation Fund (OMYF-MFF) since 1994. The Orlando Magic Youth Foundation raises community dollars annually through donations, auctions and events such as the Black Tie and Tennies Gala and the OMYF Golf Tournament with matching funds at .50 on the dollar provided by the McCormick Foundation. In 2012, in addition to presenting checks totaling $1 million to 19 non-profit organizations the OMYF will also award scholarships totaling $30,000. To learn more, visit omyf.org.
