STAT SHEET STUFFER
Tyler Hansbrough By Josh Cohen
If you had to determine which player from Monday’s action got the most eyeballs from the coaches, scouts, front office personnel and media representatives that were in attendance at the RDV Sportsplex, you would have to say it was Tyler Hansbrough.

After becoming the all-time scoring leader in the ACC and capturing a national championship at North Carolina last season, Hansbrough showed why the Indiana Pacers selected him with the 13th pick. His impressive 17-point and five-rebound performance helped catapult Indiana to a stirring overtime win over NJ/Philly.

NO ANSWER FOR SPEIGHTS
Marreese Speights By Josh Cohen
Marreese Speights got the opportunity to watch and learn from one of the NBA’s most productive low-post scorers during his rookie season with the Philadelphia 76ers – even if it was just for a short period of time. While studying teammate Elton Brand’s moves and tactics prior to his season-ending shoulder injury, Speights got an idea of what it takes to be a first-rate power forward in this league.

His performance on Monday at the 2009 Orlando Pro Summer League, undoubtedly, put a smile on the faces of Brand, new head coach Eddie Jordan and the rest of the Sixers organization. The former University of Florida standout returned home to his native state and registered 28 points and 11 rebounds despite his team falling in overtime, 75-67, to the Pacers.

It's very evident that seasoned NBA experience is a tremendous asset in the summer league. In addition to Speights excelling on opening day, Chris Douglas-Roberts, who earned valuable minutes for the Nets this past season, erupted for 20 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field.
RICHARDSON SWITCHES ROLES
Jeremy Richardson By Dan Savage
It's an interesting turn of events for Jeremy Richardson. In just a matter of weeks, he went from seeing very little action on an NBA Finals team to being the star of the show on a summer league squad. But the fifth-year pro out of Delta State handled the transition exceptionally well.

Richardson, who chooses to lead this team by example rather than bellowing out commands, did just that by notching the only double-double of the contest with 18 points and 11 boards in Orlando's 88-77 loss. He took advantage of the opportunity to display his skill set in front of on-lookers Vince Carter and Dwight Howard and hopes that will help earn their trust when he takes the floor with them next season.

"I'm trying to go out and play to the best of my ability and get this team a win," Richardson said after the game. "We didn't get a win tonight, but we'll try to get the rest of them."

It appears that he has already mastered the attitude of a true professional.
KEEP AN EYE ON .....
Lester Hudson By Josh Cohen
They may ultimately become two of the most successful second-round draft selections in the NBA. Bill Walker, who was chosen 47th overall by the Washington Wizards in 2008 before being immediately dealt to the Celtics, and Lester Hudson, the 58th pick this past draft, demonstrated Monday why Boston's front office has operated brilliantly recently.

Hudson, first off, who is the only player in NCAA history to register a quadruple-double, posted 11 points in his professional debut in Boston's thrashing of Utah. Walker, meanwhile, who is mostly remembered for being the teammate of Michael Beasley at Kansas State, racked up 14 points. They both recognize the honor it is to play for a prestigious franchise and how valuable it is to compete alongside champions like Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen.

“It would be great to play with guys like that,” Hudson said. “They are future Hall of Famers from my point of view and I am looking forward to it.”
A TALE OF TWO HALVES
Ryan Anderson By Dan Savage
Somewhere, someone was already hitting the panic button. After a rough 0-for-6 shooting performance in the first half of the Magic's opening summer league contest against the Oklahoma City Thunder, guaranteed a crazed fan or two was already labeling Orlando recent acquisition Ryan Anderson a bust. But after a stellar final two quarters, the second-year forward from Cal silenced any doubts.

Anderson displayed his versatility and demonstrated why he'll be a valuable asset subbing in for Rashard Lewis – a player who he models his game after – next season by draining six of his eight second-half shots to finish with 21 points and seven rebounds.

"It's summer time," Anderson joked. "It takes a little while to get going."

Just keep that in mind next time before you let a little summer league slump get under your skin.
