The Orlando Magic have selected forward Fran Vazquez in the first round (11th overall) of the 2005 NBA Draft.
Vazquez (6’10”, 238, 5/1/83) has competed in the Spanish ACB league. During the 2001-02 season, he played with Unicaja Malaga’s youth team. In 2002-03, Vazquez spent the entire season on the senior team, one of the most talented clubs in Europe. After signing with Granada Canaria in 2003-04, he returned to Unicaja last season (2004-05). Vazquez has been a member of the Spanish National Team at the Cadet, Junior and Senior levels. Vazquez helped Spain capture the silver medal at the 2002 European Under-20 Championships. Last season, Vazquez averaged 11.1 ppg., 6.0 rpg. and 1.38 blkpg. in 24.2 minpg. during 32 games with Unicaja. He netted 26 points (11-of-12 FG) and tallied 11 rebounds vs. Joventud Badalona. Vazquez recorded four double-doubles, ranked third in blocked shots during Euroleague competition and sixth in blocks in the ACB.
